Da Nang
A Coastal City Where Nature, Heritage, and Modernity Converge
Da Nang is a vibrant coastal city where natural beauty and modern urban development converge, offering a distinctive blend of beach leisure, cultural heritage, and contemporary infrastructure. Once a strategic port of the ancient Champa Kingdom and later a French colonial outpost, Da Nang has transformed into one of Vietnam’s leading destinations for tourism, investment, and innovation in central Vietnam.
The city is renowned for its pristine coastline, including the famous My Khe Beach, and its dramatic landscapes shaped by the Han River, Son Tra Peninsula, and nearby highlands. These natural assets coexist with iconic landmarks such as the Dragon Bridge and the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills, symbolizing Da Nang’s emergence as a modern tourism city with globally recognizable attractions.
Beyond its scenic appeal, Da Nang serves as the gateway to central Vietnam’s UNESCO World Heritage sites—Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, and the Complex of Hue Monuments—positioning it as a strategic hub for cultural exploration in the region. Its international airport, seaport, and integrated coastal resort corridor have further strengthened its role as a regional center for travel, commerce, and education.
Yet Da Nang is more than a resort city. Its layered history, from Cham civilization to colonial encounters and contemporary urban planning, has shaped a destination where tradition and modernity coexist. Temples, pagodas, and museums preserve the cultural memory of the region, while festivals, cuisine, and everyday coastal life provide visitors with authentic Vietnamese experiences.
Today, Da Nang stands as one of Southeast Asia’s emerging coastal destinations, celebrated for its clean environment, accessible urban layout, and balanced development between tourism, heritage, and livability. From tranquil beaches and sacred mountains to landmark architecture and nearby heritage towns, Da Nang offers travelers a compelling mix of nature, culture, and modern city life.

Da Nang Cathedral is the city’s most iconic Catholic landmark, instantly recognizable for its pastel-pink façade and Gothic-inspired design (pointed arches, tall bell tower, and stained-glass style elements). It’s often nicknamed the “Rooster Church” because there is a rooster-shaped weathercock at the top of the tower, a detail locals commonly point out when explaining the church’s identity and symbolism.
Dragon Bridge is Da Nang’s signature modern landmark: a dragon-shaped steel bridge spanning the Hàn River. It’s 666 m long and opened in 2013, designed to be both a transportation artery and a city symbol (the dragon is a powerful cultural symbol in Vietnam).

The dragon head performs a fire-breathing and water-spraying show at night on set days. Vietnam Airlines’ travel guide (a relatively reliable, tourism-information source) lists the show on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings around 9:00 PM, with brief fire then water segments and a short traffic closure for safety.
(Other travel sources sometimes describe the viewing window more broadly, so if you want the best spot, arrive early—crowds are common.)
Sun World Ba Na Hills is a mountaintop resort/entertainment complex outside central Da Nang, known for its cooler climate, panoramic viewpoints, and a cluster of attractions connected by cable car routes. The operator provides updates and ticketing through its official Sun World site and official booking portal.

The Golden Bridge is the headline attraction: a 150-meter pedestrian bridge famous for the “giant hands” supporting it. It was officially introduced/inaugurated in June 2018 as part of the Sun World Ba Na Hills complex. Sun World also describes its role as a scenic connector between areas/stations within the complex, emphasizing it as a “new tourism product” that quickly gained worldwide media attention.

Another major draw is the French Village zone (European-style architecture, plazas, and photo-friendly streetscapes), which is a big part of the “theme” experience at the summit. (Exact offerings can vary by season/events, so check the official site for current programming.)

Hoi An is a historic riverside town in central Vietnam, renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that reflects centuries of maritime trade and cultural exchange. From the 15th to 19th centuries, merchants from Japan, China, and Europe shaped its distinctive architecture, seen today in the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge and yellow merchant houses lining the Thu Bon River.

Famed for its glowing lantern streets and tranquil riverside atmosphere, Hoi An blends living traditions with heritage preservation. Nearby beaches and rural villages further enrich its appeal, making it one of Southeast Asia’s most enchanting cultural destinations.
